Mahlet Getahun - Stanford

"Working with the Chamber has been an amazing experience! It's given me the opportunity to learn research, marketing, communication, and management skills. I've been able to build connections with so many amazing interns, and I've formed valuable networking skills. Anjum is a fantastic manager; she's extremely talented, knowledgeable, and kind. I'm honored to have worked under her leadership!"

Nicole Camara - Notre Dame

The Chamber has provided me with priceless skills that apply to every aspect of industry. Leadership, organization, and dependability are just some examples of the skills the chamber allows you to grow and implement in every project. I would advise everyone to leap at the chance to intern for an amazing organization like this one.

Seth Johnson - Boston, MA

My experience at the Alhambra US Chamber has been fruitful in so many ways. I've been provided numerous opportunities to apply my knowledge and skills; as the Research Lead, I coordinate several research efforts at a time which requires quite a bit of organization, team building, communication and determination. Rather than simply taking on an opportunity that's weighted down by simple administrative tasks, I get to work hands-on with projects that make a global and nationwide impact. I'm absolutely certain that my time at the Chamber is contributing not only to my confidence in my own project management capabilities, but it's also affording me with unique ways of contributing towards issues I'm sincerely passionate about.

When I first applied to the Chamber, I was nervous because I had summer plans to travel quite extensively - over 15 states, to be exact - but with an open communication plan and so much room for flexibility, the Alhambra US Chamber has provided me a unique proposition to bolster my leadership skills all while on the move. Anjum Malik, the Managing Partner, makes it quite clear from the start that support will always be provided - and as long as you maintain frequent communications between her and the rest of the team, you'll be well on your way to achieve whatever goals you have set for yourself.

Danny Li - Yale University

Interning with Alhambra was a great experience, and it gave me the opportunity to work directly on issues I care about the most. I was also able to learn so much from my fellow interns but especially Anjum. It's easy to see how enthusiastic, caring, and passionate she is about the organization and impact she has. I would definitely recommend this internship to anyone interested in gaining valuable experience and skills.

Andrea Goldberg – Harvard University

The internship with the Alhambra US Chamber prepared me and in fact was the catalyst in the DC position I secured through Anjum. Just having access to Anjum’s contacts and the privilege of working around a dynamic, determined and persistent leader was a great experience but that was topped by mastering business writing skills from Jonathan and tech skills from Nick – this was indeed the perfect summer for me.

Yinan Sun – Cornell University

It has truly been my pleasure to work with everyone in the chamber especially with Anjum who is my mentor and my best teacher. It was very rewarding to use my abilities in Chinese and my knowledge of the Chinese academic/business environment in the global work of the Chamber. I have learnt so much here, this experience is an asset for me far beyond professional development. I am deeply enlightened by the staff, teachers, and students here by talking and working with them, which taught me how to be a better communicator and critical thinker.

I am deeply grateful for all the support and guidance that any intern would only dreamed of here. I especially admire the passion and perseverance of the staff here which inspired me a great deal for my future career.

Charlotte Lawrence – Yale University

Anjum, Nick, Diane, and the other members of the Alhambra staff were warm, welcoming, and amazing resources throughout my time at Alhambra. I had a great time and learned a lot.

The benefits from the Alhambra US Chamber internship are beyond words. Anjum’s contacts and getting to work with so many of them – it is an impressive list. Organizing world class events, sitting in on the conference calls, researching and working with the other interns was enlightening and fun. It was an incredible experience which has prepared me for the real world.

Christopher Campbell – Trinity University

My internship with the Chamber was an invaluable experience. The internship gave me the opportunity to, on a daily basis, interact with people like Anjum, Hussain, and Jonathan, who’s excitement, focus, and creativity surpassed all expectations. Not only this but being entrusted with new projects and responsibilities each week meant that I had the opportunity to engage in meaningful research and other tasks that directly aided in the Chamber’s success, and was a defining part of my time with the Chamber. It would also be a mistake for me to not mention the environment that Anjum creates with the team of interns. It is truly wonderful, and I can only describe it from what this internship helped me realize, which is that one person’s passion can be another person’s inspiration. My Chamber internship was not only a great professional experience but a wonderful learning experience overall.

Molly Brown – University of Colorado at Boulder

As an intern at the Alhambra US Chamber, I was given the opportunity to hone my organizational and leadership skills. My tasks ranged from researching through-provoking topics for international conferences to leading an official intern orientation I designed. The level of responsibility given to me throughout my internship allowed me to expand upon my professional skills, preparing me for the work world. This internship has most definitely made me more confident in myself and my ability to lead. I am very grateful for the positivity Anjum brought to the office everyday and the trust she placed in me. The learning experiences I had and the connections I made will not be forgotten.

At the Chamber, I worked with Anjum and the other interns on projects to create programs for clients that were catered to their every need. To be associated with Alhambra as an intern meant to connect with the greater community on a local, national, and international level. Through my experience working and learning with Alhambra, I grew as both a researcher and a person dedicated to the field of international education. As an intern, I assisted with educational events in partnership with the University of Texas Global Initiative and worked on time-sensitive research projects regarding international higher education institutions to determine potential partnerships and beneficiaries for Alhambra’s services. Under the guidance of Nick, Anjum, the rest of the Alhambra staff, and my fellow interns, I improved my cross-cultural speaking, research proficiency, and organizational skills. Ultimately, these skills prove to be invaluable as I take the steps necessary to build towards my academic and professional career.

I loved my internship at Alhambra during the summer of my junior year at UT. I worked on quite a few interesting projects concerning market research and I learned a lot. Additionally, I still keep in touch with my fellow interns and I am very grateful for the opportunity to have worked at Alhambra.

My time at the Alhambra US Chamber was a rewarding and fulfilling experience. I was able to apply what I learned in my major, International Relations, and my minor, Global Business Foundations, in a practical manner. During my almost two semester internship, I learned valuable professional skills that I can apply to any future endeavor or job. This internship also gave me the opportunity to work collaboratively with a great group of interns, and this experience will be useful in whatever I pursue next. Overall, this experience strengthened my knowledge of international education and my understanding of the important relationship between governments and businesses.

Yuri Svjagintsev – University of Texas at Austin

Alhambra is a good internship program for those wanting to get an idea about NGOs. Probably the best in Austin where the alternative NGO work teaches you how to beg for money at strangers doors. Alhambra gives their interns responsibility and kept them close to the office to observe the inner working of business…and I needed it. I studied government and Alhambra showed me that the NGO world wasn’t for me. I’m a field guy in my soul and I am very good in my trade as a Land Surveyor but the other secondary skills like marketing and business to business relationships were lacking. Even though I didn’t end up in an industry remotely related to Alhambra, I still benefited from it. Without Alhambra I’d probably end up being a public relations nightmare.

Jessica Tran – University of Texas at Austin

Interning at Alhambra has been a unique experience. Through my time here, I’ve learned a lot by getting an inside look at a small, education-focused, private business with an international brand. I’ve sharpened my skills in working on time-sensitive projects, event planning, and finding creative ways to market the Chamber – building both local and global clientele. I also value the relationships I built interacting with our international students and enjoyed working as a team alongside fellow interns.

Marc Tuttle – University of Texas at Austin

The internship at the Chamber has given me the opportunity to work hands on in a professional environment. It has provided me with the building blocks for my future.
