It has truly been my pleasure to work with everyone in the chamber especially with Anjum who is my mentor and my best teacher. It was very rewarding to use my abilities in Chinese and my knowledge of the Chinese academic/business environment in the global work of the Chamber. I have learnt so much here, this experience is an asset for me far beyond professional development. I am deeply enlighten by the staff, teachers, and students here by talking and working with them, which taught me how to be a better communicator and critical thinker.

I am deeply grateful for all the support and guidance that any intern would only dreamed of here. I especially admire the passion and perseverance of the staff here which inspired me a great deal for my future career.

The internship with the Alhambra US Chamber prepared me and in fact was the catalyst in the DC position I secured through Anjum. Just having access to Anjum’s contacts and the privilege of working around a dynamic, determined and persistent leader was a great experience but that was topped by mastering business writing skills from Jonathan and tech skills from Nick – this was indeed the perfect summer for me.

Interning at Alhambra U.S. Chamber has been the greatest experience that I have had in my undergraduate career. It was a wonderful opportunity that allowed me to learn many professional skills such as conducting research for businesses, developing critical thinking and organizational skills, working on a variety of projects and communicating with the administration at overseas businesses . The Chamber is a fabulous place for interns, the faculty and staff are super friendly and provide assistance whenever needed. I was glad to utilize my Arabic skills and enjoyed being around linguists from all over the world. This internship provided me with a professional business opportunity and role during my undergraduate studies that I thought unimaginable. Working alongside Alhambra-U.S. Chamber’s business development team in preparation for the 2017 International Higher Education Fair, both in Texas and India, was an invaluable learning experience. Some of the many deliverables of this internship included working with the Global Thinkers Mentorship Telemachus Program, serving as IHEF’s Speaker Liaison POC, and traveling to India as a member of the Chamber team. To be associated with Alhambra as an intern meant to connect with the greater community on a local, national, and international level. Through my experience working and learning with Alhambra, I grew as both a researcher and a person dedicated to the field of international education. As an intern, I assisted with educational events in partnership with the University of Texas Global Initiative and worked on time-sensitive research projects regarding international higher education institutions to determine potential partnerships and beneficiaries for Alhambra’s services. Under the guidance of Nick, Anjum, the rest of the Alhambra staff, and my fellow interns, I improved my cross-cultural speaking, research proficiency, and organizational skills. Ultimately, these skills prove to be invaluable as I take the steps necessary to build towards my academic and professional career.

Alex McLelland – UT Austin

As an Alhambra intern, it was wonderful to be able to use my abilities in Arabic to the benefit of the Chamber.  I also gained invaluable real-world experience which served as a welcome supplement to my graduate education. I stayed with Alhambra for nearly two years and, as a direct result of the relationships I built while interning, accepted a full-time position with one of the Chamber’s partner organizations. I could not be more grateful for all that Alhambra continues to do to help me succeed in this world.

Rachel Dacke – UT Austin

Interning with Alhambra was a wonderful learning experience. I was able to take part in the initial months of operation and it was really engaging to hear so many ideas bouncing around. I enjoyed my time with the Chamber and liked being able to develop my research skills and creativity. I would recommend interning with Alhambra to anyone interested in international relations and education.

Yuri Svjagintsev – UT Austin

Alhambra is a good internship program for those wanting to get an idea about NGOs. Probably the best in Austin where the alternative NGO work teaches you how to beg for money at strangers doors. Alhambra gives their interns responsibility and kept them close to the office to observe the inner working of business…and I needed it. I studied government and Alhambra showed me that the NGO world wasn’t for me. I’m a field guy in my soul and I am very good in my trade as a Land Surveyor but the other secondary skills like marketing and business to business relationships were lacking. Even though I didn’t end up in an industry remotely related to Alhambra, I still benefited from it. Without Alhambra I’d probably end up being a public relations nightmare.

Gabrielle Castagno – UT Austin

Interning with the Alhambra U.S. Chamber helped prepare me for a career working with both governmental and non-governmental organizations. I became comfortable collaborating with individuals from a variety of linguistic and cultural backgrounds, a skill which has served me well as an International Relations major. Interning here was one of the best decisions I made and I most certainly believe that my time here was well spent.

Additionally, I still keep in touch with my fellow interns and I am very grateful for the opportunity to have worked at Alhambra.

Working with the Chamber  was the perfect career – relevant internship. It truly prepared me for my job. The more I sat in on meetings with Anjum, Jonathan and Nick, the better I felt. Anjum’s warmth both as our Director but more importantly as a caring, gracious and kind person is felt throughout the organization. She regularly cooked and brought food for all of us. She got to know each of us personally. When I was done with my internship Anjum wrote my letter of recommendation and actually called my boss to tell him more about me. I am forever grateful.
